CaribVibeTV was honoured to attend the 2024 Canada-Caribbean Institute (CCI) Research Symposium at McMaster University in Hamilton. This year’s impactful event centred on the timely theme: “The Climate Crisis, Resilience, and Alternative Energy Sources.”
The symposium brought together researchers, students, scholars, policymakers, industry professionals, and community stakeholders from across Canada and the Caribbean to discuss practical and innovative solutions to one of the most urgent global challenges—climate change.
Throughout the event, attendees explored collaborative strategies to help Caribbean nations respond to environmental threats, including stronger hurricanes such as Hurricane Beryl. Conversations highlighted the importance of building resilient communities, improving disaster preparedness, and accelerating the use of renewable and alternative energy sources across the region.
The symposium also examined how climate change intersects with other critical issues such as environmental injustice, public health, affordable housing, food security, and economic sustainability. These discussions reinforced the need for cross-border partnerships and long-term investment in climate adaptation.
The Canada-Caribbean Institute continues to play a vital role in strengthening ties between Canada and the Caribbean. Its mission is to connect scholars and leaders to collaborate on social, environmental, and economic priorities that support shared prosperity and advancement in both regions.
