Montserrat, BWI: The Caribbean’s Best-Kept Secret — Trails, History & Rock ‘n’ Roll

Nestled in the heart of the Caribbean, the tiny island of Montserrat, British West Indies, is one of the region’s most extraordinary and underrated destinations. On a recent visit, we had the privilege of sitting down with local resident and island insider Warren Solomon, who gave us an insider’s look at this breathtaking volcanic island — its culture, its people, and its remarkable legacy.

Hiking Montserrat’s Stunning Trails

Montserrat’s rugged landscape offers some of the most dramatic hiking in the Lesser Antilles. From lush rainforest walks to panoramic volcano viewpoints, every trail tells a geological story millions of years in the making. Whether you’re a seasoned trekker or a casual nature lover, the island’s well-maintained paths reward visitors with unforgettable views and encounters with rare wildlife found nowhere else on Earth.

Air Studios Montserrat — Where Rock History Was Made

No trip to Montserrat is complete without a visit to the world-famous Air Studios Montserrat, the legendary recording facility founded by Sir George Martin, the celebrated producer best known for his groundbreaking work with The Beatles. Perched high in the hills overlooking the Caribbean Sea, Air Studios became a creative mecca throughout the 1980s, attracting artists such as Elton John, Dire Straits, the Rolling Stones, and Paul McCartney, all of whom recorded iconic albums within its walls.

Though the studio was sadly forced to close following the devastation of Hurricane Hugo in 1989, its legacy endures, and visiting the site today remains a deeply moving pilgrimage for music lovers and history enthusiasts alike.

Why Montserrat Should Be on Every Traveller’s Bucket List

From its warm and welcoming community to its rich musical heritage and jaw-dropping natural scenery, Montserrat offers a rare kind of travel experience — one that feels genuine, unhurried, and deeply memorable. Whether you’re drawn by adventure, music history, or simply the allure of an island road less travelled, Montserrat delivers in every way
