Caribbean Vibrations is proud to receive the 2026 CEMA Award for Film Documentary for our docu-series, Self-Made Canadians. This project shines a light on the remarkable stories of some of Canada’s earliest Black entrepreneurs. It would not have been possible without the dedication of our journalists, production teams, researchers, educators, and partners.
Self-Made Canadians is a 4-part documentary series that serves as an educational tool, taking us on an unlearning journey that challenges what we were taught about Black people in Canada and uncovers what we weren’t taught about how they succeeded despite facing racism. Canada has a unique history of racial oppression that has very often been downplayed and hidden from our national consciousness. This series will celebrate the perseverance of Black Canadians who, against all odds, were the minds and creators behind innovations and ideas that Canadians continue to benefit from.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Canadian Race Relations Foundation, our families, supporters, and the viewers who have supported Caribbean Vibrations for the past 22 years. This award belongs to everyone who helped bring these important stories to life.
