Wayne Wonder’s ‘No Letting Go’ Hits 100 Million On Spotify!

Wayne Wonder’s “No Letting Go,” produced by Steven ‘Lenky’ Marsden on the iconic Diwali riddim in 2002, has recently achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 100 million streams on Spotify on October 9. This accomplishment marks a remarkable achievement as it’s Wayne Wonder’s very first track to reach this impressive streaming milestone.

The story behind “No Letting Go” highlights Wayne Wonder’s innovative spirit and artistic prowess. While his contemporaries initially rejected the now legendary Diwali riddim, he seized the unique opportunity and created a track that not only showcased his remarkable vocal talents but also expressed his deep emotions for his partner. Simultaneously, it set the Dancehall scene on fire.

In a recent interview with DancehallMag, the 51-year-old artist shared, “The song was born from a personal life experience stemming from a special person in my life. I was in that special place when I wrote the lyrics, and it flowed naturally.”

Wayne penned the song in New York and collaborated with Lenky to create a composition with a chord and bridge structure. Upon hearing the final product, they knew they had something extraordinary.

Furthermore, Wayne revealed that the inspiration for the song came from a challenge posed by his then-girlfriend and now-wife, Jackie. She requested a song about their relationship rather than his usual tales of romantic adventures. Wayne accepted the challenge, retreating to the basement of his Queens, New York home to craft the heartfelt track.

“No Letting Go” spent a remarkable eight weeks on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at No. 3, and enjoyed an impressive 31-week run on the US Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 11. The song also achieved Top 40 status in various countries, including Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, and Germany.

Notably, “No Letting Go” received Gold certifications in both the United States (2022) and the United Kingdom (2020), indicating sales and streaming of 500,000 and 400,000 units, respectively. Wayne Wonder expressed his joy when the song was certified Gold in the US last year, saying, “It’s a great feeling. I always try to make music from the heart. I don’t focus on the success, but every artist dreams of achieving milestones like this to show that their hard work has paid off.”

In 2003, the track served as the lead single for Wayne Wonder’s 11th studio album, “No Holding Back,” released under VP Records.
